Pool tables are measured by the actual play surface (the area that the pool balls actually roll on). Therefore, the measurements are taken from nose-of-cushion to nose-of cushion. Be sure not to measure beneath the cushion, but to the nose or point where the pool balls actually make contact. This is where the confusion begins. Pool tables are not the exact size they are referred to as. A standard 8' Home pool table, or "Small 8," measures 44"x88" across the play surface. This is the most common size pool table for home use.
